Pana Students

The Illinois State Board of Education has released the annual Illinois Report Card at www.illinoisreportcard.com. The Report Card contains school performance data from the 2023-24 school year.

Schools are more than test scores. They are a home away from home for our students and staff. Our schools focus not only on academic success but also on caring for the whole child. We aim to equip each and every one of our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in their lives and chosen careers. We strive to forge strong bonds with families, build community, and prepare our students to thrive in the next step of their educational journey.

One component of the Report Card is the Annual Summative Designation – a federally required accountability category. It identifies schools for support and describes how well our school is meeting the needs of all students based on eight indicators of performance.

Our summative designation for each school is as follows:

Pana Elementary School - COMMENDABLE

The summative designation for Pana Elementary School is a combination of the data from Washington School and Lincoln School during the 23-24 school year. At Pana Elementary School, we continue to designate specific time each day for students to receive RTI services in Math and Reading in order to target specific, differentiated learning areas for each student in the building. In August 2024, we began implementing a new math curriculum at grades K-5 to better equip and challenge students.

Pana Junior High School - EXEMPLARY

We have recognized the importance of building a strong foundation in basic math skills. To support this, we've increased math instruction time by 20 minutes daily. Teachers have identified a need to boost student confidence in writing about what they read. To address this, they have collaborated to create a cohesive curriculum that builds on skills progressively throughout 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Additionally, the writing framework we've implemented is being used across various subjects, including social studies, fostering a consistent approach to writing development. We have also worked towards making school a fun place to be. Teachers regularly celebrate students for their success in the classroom and Student Council works all year planning activities for the school.

Pana High School - COMMENDABLE

The high school has made commendable progress, with the English and Math Departments implementing major curriculum reforms over the past two and a half years. In 2022-2023, a building-wide Response to Intervention (RtI) program was introduced to support students needing skill development, and a Writing Workshop was launched to assist with assignments. Advanced Placement (AP) classes are offered, and a Professional Learning Community (PLC) committee, led by Mr. McDonald, meets each semester to focus on data review, RtI, and building needs. The high school has also concentrated on completing the College and Career Pathways to enhance student readiness for life after graduation.

Our Report Card is an opportunity we welcome to celebrate our strengths and reflect on our goals, so that every student can reach their fullest potential. We at Pana School District believe every single student can meet high expectations and that you are a critical partner in your child’s education. When we all work together on behalf of our students, we can achieve more.
